Tell us a little about your story and your day!

Andrew and I met in 2015 while we both were attending DePauw University; I was a freshman from Florida, and he was a sophomore from Texas at the time. Since we were both on the swim team, I ended up sitting next to him and talked to him while at a swim meet and we hit it off right away! I remember during our conversation I couldn’t stop thinking about how funny he was. He has the type of humor where he curates the perfect joke and waits for just the right moment to tell it in a conversation that never fails to leave you dying of laughter. Right away I was drawn to him because I have always had a weak spot for guys who could make me laugh and he was very attentive to everything I was saying so I could tell that he was someone who genuinely cared about what I had to say.

We quickly grew to become close friends, we would study together, talk at swim practice, he would give me advice about life, and we also played a lot of Mario Kart together. I absolutely loved finding any reason to spend time with him. My freshman year I had a rough time with moving to Indiana from Florida and Andrew was there for me that entire year as he understood what it was like to move from a far place to a state that you don’t have any friends or family in. Before I knew it, we had grown incredibly close, and he had become one of my best friends.

For the next two years, Andrew and I remained best friends. It wasn’t until early December of my junior year that I was finally ready to confess my feelings to him. After we both expressed that we wanted to be more than friends we began dating. Dating Andrew was an extremely fun time as we learned more about each other on a deeper emotional level that only made me fall harder for him. We started going on dates to get chicken fingers late at night, cooking for each other, car rides to Dairy Queen, and so many other adventures. On December 16, 2017 he officially asked me to be his girlfriend and I remember being so happy and excited to continue our adventure together. He was honestly the sweetest boyfriend I had ever had. He would send me adorable little messages that made me smile from ear to ear about the things he loved about me such as how beautiful he thought I was from head to toe, about how I would blush when I got embarrassed, that my smile was one of a kind. That he felt like he could tell me anything and that he was extremely comfortable with me. He told me that he values my openness with him and that he truly enjoyed being with me. Andrew always does everything he can to make me happy and I am extremely thankful for him.

I never imagined that I would fall in love with my best friend and choose to continue to do life with him each day. I love him for so many different reasons from the simple way that he calls me his little potato chip or chicken nugget to how safe I feel in his arms. He has been such an incredible part of my life and I continue to be excited about our future together. We have experienced many firsts together which has built everlasting memories for us like, eating Marco’s pizza on the floor together the first night in our furniture less apartment, adopting our first dog Watson together and all the ups and downs that come with taking in a rescue dog, to even buying our first house together. Like all relationships, we have had our challenges too but no matter what Andrew NEVER lets me go to bed angry just as I do the same for him, and maybe that’s our little secret to having such a strong relationship…who knows? I just know that there is nothing that we wouldn’t do for each other and I am forever grateful that I fell in love with my best friend and even more grateful that he chooses to put up with me day after day.

On October 31st, 2021 we went to Cataract Falls for a little “family” hike, me, Andrew, and Watson. He waited until there were no people around before turning me around so that we were facing each other. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was so overwhelmingly excited that I forgot to say yes and just kept shaking my head up and down until he told me that he was waiting for me to say the words aloud. After I verbally told him YES, he slipped the ring on my finger and we embraced into a tight hug while tears started forming in my eyes from the rush of emotions.

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! I remember feeling worried about the rain however our amazing photographers were able to get in all the photos we wanted outside in between the rain showers. We even were able to get some cool rain shots! There were so many special moments from our wedding that will replay over and over in our memories such as our first dance, our first look, our amazing cocktail menu and charcuterie grazing table oh and who could forget about the cookie table full of homemade cookies from all our friends and family! I also will never forget when we were taking our first look photos with our dog Watson he began to throw up and my first instinct was to hug and take care of my dog, but I am beyond thankful for Cody, being the professional he is, quickly acting to make sure I did not end up with vomit on my dress.

Overall, the day could not have gone any better and we are still on cloud 9 post wedding!

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

Don’t sweat the little things. As a type A person I understand greatly how some people want everything to go perfectly but the reality is the day is going to be perfect no matter what happens so focus on the things you can control and let everything else go! Also, I know budget can get difficult but looking back at our wedding I am so thankful I splurged more on the things that were most important to us. It truly helped us have the most magical day! Oh also DIY when you can and Pinterest will be your best friend when planning!

What was your favorite moment from your day?

I have two favorite memories. When my dad gave me my mom’s ring that she wore on her wedding day as she passed away when I was a kid so it was a very special moment for me and it means a lot to now have something of hers that I can hold onto for the rest of my life. My other favorite moment was during my first dance with Andrew we both started crying over how much we loved one another and it was just incredibly special to share that moment especially since him and I are not the most emotional people in the world it meant so much to us both! There was another notable mention moment where Cody brought both Andrew and I a drink from the bar and I cannot even begin to add how thankful I was in that moment for him to do that it was such a nice thing for him to do and just was an extra way that he went above and beyond for us as a vendor, not only did he do a fantastic job but he also made sure we were having fun at our wedding!
