Tell us a little about your story and your day!
On a warm Indianapolis evening in June of 2016, Maithilee - after a long day of volunteering for her firm - decided to head to Ralston's Drafthouse on Mass Ave with her co-workers for a much deserved drink. Rob - after (presumably) a long day of video gaming - also decided to head to Ralston's Drafthouse to meet up with a friend who was going out to meet up with his co-workers. Coincidentally, Rob's friend just happened to be Maithilee's co-worker. Now, if you know anything about Rob, you know that he can't help but tease people to get a reaction out of them. After Maithilee told Rob she was drinking a sour beer, he responded by saying, "I didn't know girls knew what sours were!!" Not knowing if Rob was truly joking or not, Maithilee decided to brush off the chauvinistic joke and they mutually bonded over trying different beers, trying each others' beers (remember, it was 2017) and comparing notes. Rob realized that Maithilee was pretty cool, and eventually, Maithilee realized that Rob was just being a rascal. Beers at Ralston's turned into dancing downtown and at the end of the night, Rob and Maithilee agreed they should get lunch sometime, exchanged phone numbers and went their separate ways. Rob texted Maithilee the next day but never heard back. Turns out, Maithilee lost her phone downtown that night. Once she got a new phone, back and forth texts began but there was no lunch. Hanging out with mutual friends over the next several months eventually turned into a request that next February for the lunch they once agreed to get. Since Tuesday was his least busy day, Rob suggested Tuesday to meet Maithilee for lunch, oblivious to the fact that the particular Tuesday he chose just happened to be Valentine's Day. Not knowing what to think, Maithilee repeatedly asked "But why this day?" until Rob realized what he had done. Maithilee wasn't sure if he was joking or not and so, to be on the safe side, she invited two of their mutual friends to lunch where she proceeded to tear her straw wrapper into thousands of pieces. Due to the 2020 pandemic, it took until January of 2021 for Rob to finally meet Maithilee's father so he could ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. Once again, Maithilee wasn't sure if Rob was joking or not so she asked "Are you for real?" a few times before finally agreeing to marry the rascal.
What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
Try not to focus on anything too detailed because memories are about feelings. People care about how you made them FEEL that day. Most importantly, it is your day to enjoy and cherish forever so staying relaxed is key. Remember to take it all in from time to time - it goes by in a flash and most of the things you are stressed about won't matter at the end anyway! Essentially, don't waste your time stressing about any decision that won't affect your overall happiness on your wedding day or won't have any impact on your married life thereafter!
What was your favorite moment from your day?
Our favorite moment was getting back to the hotel room around 3 am and soaking our tired and tortured feet in a hot bathtub (his feet were in just as much pain as mine since he forgot to wear his orthodics!) This was our favorite part because we actually got a chance to just be with each other and catch up on the numerous stories from the day. We spent all of our wedding day apart and when we finally saw each other on the aisle, things went by so quickly! 3 am in our hotel bathroom was the first time we took a breath and felt relaxed all day. We were finally about to share with each other stories of our groomsmen, bridesmaids, families, and overall shenanigans from the whole day.
