What To Wear

What Should I Bring & Wear to Our Family Session?

We get this question all the time! Here are some great examples to start heading in the right direction! These are just places to start, make each example your own!

What To Bring To Your Family Session

  • Snacks & drinks for your kiddos! (seriously though)

  • Baby Wipes

  • Umbrella (just in case)

  • Blanket to lay on

  • Hair ties

  • Backup Outfits for kiddos

  • Any props you want to use (small chair, favorite stuffed animal or toy etc)

Boho Session:

Say Yes To:

  • Flowy dresses, maxi skirts, and wide-brimmed hats.

  • Earth tones like rust, olive, cream, and muted pastels.

  • Layered jewelry, such as long necklaces and bangles, and natural textures like lace, crochet, or fringe.

  • Sandals, ankle boots, and barefoot for a relaxed vibe.

Say No To:

  • Neon colors, heavy patterns, or anything too structured.

  • High heels or overly formal shoes that break the laid-back feel.

  • Tight-fitting clothes that don't allow for movement.

  • Overly polished or stiff hairstyles—think loose waves or braids instead.

Large Extended Family Session:

Say Yes To:

  • Coordinated colors across the group, such as a palette of blues, neutrals, or earth tones.

  • Simple, classic outfits that won’t date the photos—think solid colors and subtle patterns.

  • Comfortable shoes for everyone, especially if the session involves walking or standing.

  • Layers like cardigans, jackets, or scarves to add variety without overwhelming the group.

Say No To:

  • Matching outfits for everyone (e.g., all white shirts and jeans) unless it's a deliberate choice for uniformity.

  • Busy patterns or logos that can clash when grouped together.

  • Extremely trendy items that might look outdated quickly.

  • High heels or shoes that might cause discomfort during a long session.

Everyday Wear Session:

Say Yes To:

  • Casual but stylish outfits, like a favorite pair of jeans with a well-fitted top.

  • Soft, neutral colors or pastels for a relaxed, everyday vibe.

  • Comfortable footwear like sneakers, flats, or boots.

  • Personal touches like a favorite accessory or a well-loved sweater.

Say No To:

  • Overly casual items like gym wear or worn-out clothes.

  • Distracting logos or overly bright colors that pull focus.

  • Formal shoes or overly accessorized outfits that don't match the casual theme.

  • Anything that doesn’t feel authentically you—comfort and confidence are key.
