If you’re newly engaged and still figuring out what an engagement session is even for, let us break it down. These photos aren't just “save the date” material—they serve a much bigger purpose.

  • You’ll build trust with your photographer (and find your best angles).

  • It’s low-stakes practice for your wedding day portraits.

  • You’ll capture your relationship during a special chapter—before the wedding day whirlwind begins.

For Jovey & Cam, their engagement session at IU was their first time doing a professional shoot together. Understandably, they were nervous about how they'd look in front of the camera, but by the end of the session, they felt completely at ease.

“Neither of us are photo people, but now that we know different poses (thanks, Cody!), we are more open to taking more photos together!”

Home to Indiana University, Bloomington combines architectural charm with a walkable downtown and iconic landmarks around every corner. Some of our favorite features include:

  • Sample Gates – A must-stop for every IU love story.

  • Rose Well House – A quiet, romantic spot tucked away near the center of campus.

  • Dunn Meadow – Perfect for golden hour photos.

  • Kirkwood Avenue – For a bit of texture and urban energy.

  • Limestone architecture + autumn leaves – It doesn’t get more Indiana than that.

Jovey & Cam met during their time at IU in 2020 through mutual friends. So naturally, returning to campus for their engagement session felt like coming full circle.

“Our first date was actually at Asuka in Bloomington—hibachi is our shared weakness!”

They’re planning their wedding at The Barn at Bay Horse Inn (a rustic-chic favorite just south of Indianapolis), but wanted their engagement photos to reflect the place where their love story began.

Despite being nervous about photos and having strangers around, the couple quickly got into the rhythm of the shoot.

“Cody was extremely helpful in directing our poses and fixing them when needed. He made the process so easy and natural—it led to phenomenal pictures!”

Their session wove through favorite IU landmarks: quiet garden paths, bold stone buildings, and tree-lined walkways that lit up beautifully in the afternoon glow. Jovey & Cam’s laughter, closeness, and love for each other shone through every frame.

“Our biggest piece of advice to other couples? Just have fun and don’t be nervous—it will go way better than you ever imagined, and the pictures will show your love!”
