There are a lot of wedding venues in downtown Indianapolis.

Luxury hotels.

Historic buildings.

Ballrooms.

Industrial spaces.

And honestly? A lot of them are beautiful.

But Regions Tower occupies a really unique lane.

The biggest thing that makes it different is this:

You get the elevated downtown luxury vibe without all the headaches that usually come with downtown weddings.

You're surrounded by the city.

Skyline views everywhere.

Modern architecture.

That higher-end, luxury feel.

Romantic wedding photos overlooking downtown Indianapolis skyline

But you're not dragging your wedding party through crowded sidewalks dodging traffic while trying to take portraits.

You're not fighting random crowds.

You're not spending half your day dealing with downtown logistics.

Instead, you get a really private experience while still feeling immersed in the city.

And honestly, I think that’s one of the biggest reasons this venue photographs so well.

It feels upscale.

It feels intentional.

And most importantly?

It feels easy on wedding day.

If you're still deciding between venues, downtown Indianapolis has some incredible wedding venue options depending on your vision and priorities for the day.

The Rooftop Patio Is the Best Part of Regions Tower (And Probably Why You're Here)

Sunset wedding portraits at Regions Tower rooftop in Indianapolis

Let’s just say the obvious thing:

The rooftop patio is one of the biggest reasons people book Regions Tower.

I get it.

It’s one of my favorite places in Indianapolis for wedding photos.

Especially at sunset.

The best way I can describe it is this:

It feels like downtown Chicago.

You’re up in the middle of the city, surrounded by buildings and skyline views, but without all the noise and chaos happening down below.

You feel immersed in downtown Indianapolis while still having privacy.

That’s a really hard thing to find.

And because the rooftop faces west, sunset photos here are incredible.

The light wraps beautifully.

The skyline looks amazing.

And you’re not fighting traffic or rushing between locations.

You simply walk outside.

That’s it.

No transportation.

No extra timeline stress.

No disappearing for an hour during your wedding.

For Gena & Nolan, we used the rooftop in a few really strategic ways throughout the day:

  • bridal party photos before leaving for the ceremony

  • cocktail hour after returning from church

  • sunset portraits later in the evening

And honestly, it worked perfectly.

If you're planning engagement photos before the wedding too, downtown Indianapolis has some incredible locations nearby. You can see some of our favorite spots for engagement sessions here.

Gena & Nolan’s Wedding Day Timeline Worked Because We Planned Ahead

A Little Bit About Gena & Nolan

Gena and Nolan first met while working on-campus jobs for RecSports at Notre Dame. What started as flirting at work quickly turned into a relationship that would span eight years, multiple stages of life, and more than a few periods of long distance.

One of the things they were most excited about on wedding day was having everyone they loved together in one place.

As Gena shared:

“It was an incredible gift for Gena and Nolan to have all of their family and friends from all stages of life (childhood, Notre Dame, medical school, Peace Corps, and Chicago) in one place to meet and celebrate.”

And honestly, that feeling really carried throughout the entire day. It felt less like a formal event and more like one giant celebration of the people who helped shape their story.

One thing I always tell couples:

A great wedding day timeline solves problems before they ever happen.

Gena & Nolan had a pretty ambitious day.

They got ready onsite at Regions Tower, held their ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church downtown, then returned for cocktail hour and their reception at JPS Events.

Because they chose not to do a first look, we knew we needed to be strategic.

So before anyone left for the ceremony, we handled all of the bridesmaid and groomsmen photos on the rooftop.

That bought us valuable time later.

Especially because Catholic ceremonies tend to create a tighter afternoon timeline.

If you're considering a Catholic ceremony plus Regions Tower reception, my honest advice is this:

Build margin into your timeline early.

Doing bridal party photos beforehand helped Gena & Nolan stay relaxed and enjoy their evening rather than feeling rushed.

And honestly, that relaxed feeling carried throughout the entire day.

When I asked Gena & Nolan what stood out emotionally from their wedding, their answer was simple:

“The overwhelming feeling for us was pure joy. From walking down the aisle, entering our reception and soaking in all the toasts, every part of the day was coated in love. We were both so happy to be there and it felt like there was nothing that could stop us from having the best day of our lives.”

And honestly? That felt incredibly true watching the day unfold.

And that extra flexibility gave us time for sunset photos later without disrupting the reception.

My Honest Philosophy on Sunset Photos (And Why We Only Pulled Gena & Nolan for 10–15 Minutes)

Elegant wedding portraits at JPS Events at Regions Tower

This is probably where my philosophy differs a little bit from some photographers.

I’m just not a huge believer in pulling couples away from their wedding reception for 45 minutes.

Your wedding day is your wedding day.

You should actually enjoy it.

Your people are there.

Your guests traveled for you.

Your dance floor is happening.

The last thing I want is for couples to feel like they missed their own wedding.

A huge part of our approach to wedding photography is making sure couples actually get to experience their day while we document it naturally. If you're curious about how we approach storytelling and candid moments, you can read more about our documentary wedding photography approach here.

So for Gena & Nolan, we snuck out for about 10–15 minutes around sunset.

Just enough time to:

  • grab a drink

  • take a breath

  • decompress for a minute

  • enjoy being married for a second

  • capture beautiful updated portraits

Then? Right back to the party.

One of my favorite unexpected moments from Gena & Nolan’s day actually happened during this little break.

We ended up sneaking onto the rooftop with their nieces and nephews and letting the kids simply be kids for a few minutes — dancing around, laughing, and just having fun together.

It wasn’t part of the original timeline.

But moments like that are honestly some of my favorites because they end up becoming the memories couples talk about years later.

As Gena shared afterward:

“The entire day was perfect, but having a moment alone on the roof with our nieces and nephews to dance around and act like fools will forever stand out as one of our most precious memories. It was not originally part of our schedule, but Cody made sure to make it happen with all the littles under six years old.”

And Regions Tower honestly works perfectly for this because the rooftop is steps away.

No leaving property.

No downtown logistics.

No long portrait adventure.

Just beautiful light and a quick reset before jumping back into the night.

What Happens If It Rains at Regions Tower?

Romantic bride and groom portraits during Indianapolis rooftop wedding

This is one of the biggest questions couples ask me.

Because let’s be honest:

If you’re booking Regions Tower, you’re probably dreaming about that rooftop.

And understandably so.

But here’s the good news:

The indoor backup plan actually works really well.

Gena & Nolan unfortunately had some rain move in, which meant portions of the evening

had to shift indoors.

I don’t think anybody cared.

If anything, the energy got even better.

The indoor event space has a much more intimate, almost nightclub-like feel once the dance floor opens up.

The party stayed loud.

The room stayed packed.

Nobody was disappointed.

And the JPS team handled the transition seamlessly.

That flexibility is honestly one of the biggest strengths of Regions Tower.

The rooftop may be the signature feature, but they’re incredibly good at adapting when weather shifts.

And that matters.

Because weather happens.

The best venues aren’t the ones that only look good in perfect conditions.

They’re the ones that still feel special when Plan A changes.

Regions Tower does that really well.

My Honest Photographer Perspective on JPS Events at Regions Tower

I’ve photographed enough weddings over the years to know something important:

Anybody can make a venue look good online.

Pretty marketing photos are easy.

What matters is what the place actually feels like on wedding day.

And this is where I think JPS Events at Regions Tower genuinely stands out.

Everything feels dialed in.

But never overly rigid.

The staff is consistently fantastic.

Things are ready early.

The venue is always presentation-ready.

Which, as a photographer, is a huge deal.

It’s the little things I notice most.

Bathrooms stocked with toiletries.

Furniture maintained.

Outdoor fireplaces working.

Clean spaces.

Thoughtful details.

Nothing ripped.

Nothing worn down.

Nothing feels forgotten.

They’ve even done updates to the rooftop deck itself to make it feel safer and more polished.

Those details matter.

Because they shape how your guests experience the day.

Regions Tower doesn’t just photograph like a luxury venue.

It actually feels like one.

And while venue experience matters, I also know couples care deeply about how the day actually feels to live through.

For Gena & Nolan, timeline flexibility ended up being one of the biggest wins of the day — especially with a Catholic ceremony and shifting logistics.

As they shared afterward:

“We had scheduling conflicts with the mass and had to adjust our day of timeline. It could have been a disaster timing wise, but Cody made sure that we got all of the photos at the church while herding both of our large families.”

They also said something that meant a lot to me personally:

“The biggest thing that stood out to us is that Cody is willing to adapt to whatever you want your day to be. He does a phenomenal job of providing his input on photos while also encouraging you to steer the ship.”

That balance is honestly something I care a lot about. I’ll absolutely guide things when needed, but at the end of the day, it’s your wedding — not mine.

KIS Florals at JPS Is One of the Most Underrated Perks

Colorful wedding floral centerpiece and bouquet details by KIS Florals at Regions Tower wedding in Indianapolis

One thing couples may not realize is that JPS now has their own floral company:

KIS Florals (Keep It Simple Florals).

They consistently crush it.

Gena & Nolan’s wedding had vibrant spring-meets-summer florals filled with color and life.

Soft pinks.

Purples.

Bright blooms.

The bridesmaids wore beautiful pink-purple dresses while the guys kept things timeless with classic black tuxes and bow ties.

It looked incredible at Regions Tower.

A lot of modern weddings lean heavily into white and ivory florals.

Which absolutely works.

But I personally love when couples bring color into this space.

The clean architecture and modern downtown backdrop actually let those colors shine.

And Gena & Nolan’s wedding was a perfect example of that balance between sophistication and personality.

Is Regions Tower Worth It for a Wedding?

In my opinion?

Yes.

Especially if you're looking for:

  • rooftop cocktail hour

  • skyline views

  • luxury downtown Indianapolis vibes

  • incredible sunset photos

  • rain flexibility

  • strong vendor coordination

  • a polished guest experience

Is it the cheapest wedding venue in Indianapolis?

No.

And honestly, I don’t think it’s trying to be.

But if your vision includes a downtown rooftop wedding with amazing city views, a polished experience, and a venue team that consistently executes well?

Regions Tower is absolutely worth considering.

Especially if you want a venue that feels elevated without becoming overly formal or stuffy.

Gena & Nolan’s Advice for Couples Planning Their Wedding

Bride and groom celebrating with wedding party at Regions Tower wedding in downtown Indianapolis

I always like asking couples what advice they’d give after everything is over because hindsight tends to be pretty honest.

For Gena & Nolan, two things stood out most:

Share the planning responsibilities.

As they put it:

“There is so much planning that goes into a wedding and it should not fall on one person. Make sure you are divvying up tasks between each other, vendors, and family members willing to help.”

And second?

Trust your vendors.

“It took a lot more research and effort, but you will know when your vendors are a good fit for you and your vision for your wedding day.”

Honestly, I think that’s really solid advice. Finding vendors you genuinely trust makes such a huge difference. If you're still trying to figure out what to look for, here’s our honest advice on how to choose a wedding photographer.
